Stoicism for a Better Life – Weekly exercise (May 29, 2019)
Hello there,
This week for our guidance, let us continue on a similar mental path as last week and draw inspiration from Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations VIII 32:
“Act by act thou must build up thy life, and be content, if each act as far as may be, fulfils its end. And there is never a man that can prevent it doing this.”
This week let’s keep it simple. Forget the theory, forget the quotes and just embody the virtuous person you strive to be. Our lives are a continuous stream of constant “Heres & Nows”. So this week, just focus all the energy you can muster up in being the best person you can be in the present moment.
This means stop judging others as this takes up precious resources (energy and brain computing power). Stop looking for things to complain about and be unhappy about and feel victimized about. Stop wasting your precious resources and time and instead use your energy on focusing on being the best you…period…in your here and now. And nothing external can stop you from trying to be the best “you” you can be with your given reality (play the hand you’re dealt!).
As always please share your ideas as this is meant to be a discussion thread. Don’t be shy!
Much love and good luck.
